Car Seat Inspection and Installation Program

North Lyon County Fire Protection District offers free child safety restraint inspection and installation by appointment only.

We currently have two National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Car Seat Technicians who can inspect and install car seats and give safety tips for children while riding in vehicles.

NRS 484.474 requires children under age 6 AND 60 pounds to be in a child restraint while riding in vehicles.

It is recommended that all children under 12 should ride in the back seat.

When you or a family member have a medical emergency, you should not have to worry about the ambulance cost. The North Lyon County Fire Protection District is proud to offer the Ambulance Saver Program. The Ambulance Saver Program will eliminate out-of-pocket expenses should you or your family require ambulance service. Ambulance services are very expensive with the average trip being about $1,500. The affordable Ambulance Saver Program costs $75 per year for a family and $50 per year for a single member household. With The Ambulance Saver Program, you and your family will receive the best emergency ambulance service available, as often as medically necessary, with no additional expense. You need to provide us with any insurance you have so we can bill them accordingly. Members of the Ambulance Saver Program will have full coverage without dedcutibles, and absolutely nothing more to pay for ambulance transportation to the hospital.

*Air-ambulance service in not covered by this plan.

Please note, the program coverage period runs from July 1st to June 30th of each year. If you sign up after July 1st, your coverage will not be pro-rated and will begin upon receipt of the completed application and payment. Coverage will expire on June 30th.

What is Vial of Life?

The Vial of Life is designed to speak for you when you can’t speak for yourself. The vial contains important medical information that can assist emergency personnel in administering the proper medical treatment; Who you are, what medications you are using, medical history, who is your emergency contact person, are you wearing hearing or seeing devices, contact information, insurance information, physicians, preferred hospital, etc.

These are very annoying questions when you don’t feel well, and sometimes you may not recall the answers because of your condition.

Directions for Vial of Life

1)    Pick up a Vial of Life Container at the District Office; 195 E Main Street, Fernley NV

2)    Complete all forms

3)    Put all forms and pertinent medical information in the vial

4)    Put vial in the refrigerator door top compartment

5)    Put Vial of Life magnet on the outside corner of refrigerator door

The Vial of Life speaks for you when you can’t speak or don’t feel well.

Protect yourself, and all of your family members… all it will cost you is a little time.      And it could save your life!

Burn Permits

Burn Permits

To protect your home from potential wildfires and cleanup dried vegetation, we issue burn permits for Residential, Agricultural and Commercial burning.

Permits are available November 1 through April 30; dates vary based on weather and fire conditions. Permits are required for any open burning in the District and those burning without a permit or who are not in compliance with the rules and regulations of the permit will be cited.

Permit Conditions – All Burning Requirements are listed on the permit.

  • Burning is from daylight until noon with all piles fully extinguished at 2:00 p.m.
  • Open burning is prohibited whenever winds exceed 10 miles per hour.
  • You may not burn construction materials, plastic, brush larger than 4 inches in diameter, paper, cardboard, rubbish, or garbage.

To protect your home from potential wildfires…

Reduce flammable vegetation, trees, and brush around your home.

  • Remove dead trees and prune low-hanging branches.
  • Cut grass and weeds regularly.
  • Relocate woodpiles and leftover building materials away from structures.
  • Keep your roof and yard clean of pine needles, leaves, and debris.

Chief Huntley is a certified Plans Examiner and is responsible for ensuring that all new commercial construction, multi-family residential construction, and fire protection system plans are reviewed for fire and building code compliance prior to the issuance of permits. The Plans Examiner works closely with his/her counterparts in the Building Departments of the City of Fernley and Lyon County in order to maintain consistent standards across jurisdictional boundaries.   The Fire District has adopted the 2012 Fire Code and Northern Nevada Amendments. We are not only commited to responding to your emergency needs, but we are also commited to providing additional services to the citizens, business owners, and organizations within the community.   Our Community Outreach Program is aimed at bringing the citizens of Fernley together through various events such as the Relay for Life, Pancake Breakfasts, Christmas for Kids, and many others. The North Lyon County Fire Protection District is committed to providing many educational opportunities for the citizens, business owners, and organizations of Fernley. We offer expert training to become certified in First Aid, CPR for Layperson, CPR for Healthcare Providers, and others. We also offer demonstrations on vehicle extrication, fire suppression, and cardiac arrest calls.

Our major events usually occur in October during Fire Safety Month, but we also impact the community through various educational opportunities throughout the entire year.
