Fire Prevention

The Fire Prevention Division operates under the direction of the Fire Chief. Its mission is to improve public safety and decrease loss of life and property through effective public education, fire inspections, and enforcement programs. The District Chief supervises three related functions: Plans Review, Fire Inspections and Investigations. The Fire District has adopted the 2012 Fire Code and North Nevada Amendments.

Fire Inspections and Investigations
Chief Huntley is certified as a Fire Inspector and also responsible for inspecting both new and existing commercial and multi-family residential occupancies for life safety compliance throughout the Fire District. District staff performs Fire Investigations with assistance from the Nevada State Fire Marshal’s Office.

The Fire Prevention Division Office is located at 195 East Main Street Fernley Nevada. The office is open Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The phone number is 775-575-3310.

NLCFPD functions at the Awareness and Operations level for Hazardous Materials incidents. The District has at least one Hazmat Technician on every shift. We currently have a mutual aid agreement with Quad County to provide HAZMAT services for complex incidents.

Every wildland fire season, the NLCFPD responds to major wildland fires across the nation. We are assigned to major incidents through the Department of Emergency Management (DEM) to respond as single resources, or part of a strike team or task force.

The North Lyon County Fire Protection District provides ambulance services to the community of Fernley and the surrounding area with two Advanced Life Support (ALS) ambulances. We take pride in providing the highest level of EMS service. All of our full time Paramedics and EMT’s are also trained Firefighter’s.

The North Lyon County Fire Protection District aims to provide the highest level of fire suppression services to the community of Fernley, NV. We serve the community 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 365 days a year. In order to provide the best service, our staff participate in numerous trainings throughout the year so they can provide the necessary duties to get the job done.

Board of Directors

Governing Board/Meeting Agenda & Minutes
Elections are held every 2 years (three members are elected at one time, two at another) so terms overlap. These elected officials hold office for 4 years, receive no remuneration and truly represent the public by contributing their time to the District.
Board meetings are held at once monthly on the second Thursday of each month at 6:00 PM in the Meeting Room of the North Lyon County Fire Protection District, 195 East Main Street, Fernley NV 89408; meetings are subject to rescheduling and special meetings may be called. The public is always invited. Agendas are posted at least 72 hours prior to meetings per Nevada Open Meeting Law.
